Ka’u
July 31 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm HST
$10Emerging from the rugged coastlines and rolling hills of Hawaiʻi Island’s Kaʻū district, the band Kaʻū carved out a sound as rich and grounded as the ʻāina that raised them. Formed in the early 1990s, Kaʻū rose to prominence by the late 1990s and early 2000s, known for their electrifying live shows, soulful harmonies, and a style that fused Jawaiian rhythms, paniolo roots, and modern Hawaiian music into something uniquely their own.
With a deep connection to the community, Kaʻū became a fixture at local festivals and venues, most notably holding it down at the Blue Dragons in Kawaihae. Their performances, often punctuated with heartfelt ballads and island-style jams, echoed throughout Hawaiʻi, capturing the attention of fans and fellow musicians alike.
Their music didn’t just stay local—it found its way into the world. Kaʻū’s smooth rendition of “Shake You Down” (originally by Gregory Abbott) was featured on the official soundtrack of the 2007 film “Are We Done Yet?”—a milestone that marked their commercial reach. Over the years, they released multiple albums, compilation tracks, and a beloved “Best of Kaʻū” collection, solidifying their legacy as a cornerstone of Hawaiian contemporary music.
After years of exploring individual paths and musical projects, the members of Kaʻū have reunited—not just for nostalgia, but to revive a living, breathing sound that still resonates with meaning. Their return is a revival of sound, spirit, and story—still rooted in the land, still driven by heart, and more inspired than ever.
